What if I am otherhost?  Is there a facility for something like 

[root@otherhost]# cat /dev/tcp/me/listen/5000 > yesterhost-hda.img
  //
[root@yesterhost]# dd if=/dev/hda > /dev/tcp/otherhost/5000
