you're overplaying that situation

lets look at severity recent events

-IE
-- oversized img dim cause windows a BSOD
-- WMF && createTextRange = Remote Code Execution


-FF
-- overly large html title = caused FF not to open on the next execute
but the remedy was easy enough and while an update was being prepared, users 
could disable js or install a FF extention so to only allow js from trusted 
sites


I would say this is far less as serious than a BSOD and/or Remote Code 
Execution
M$ took their time on the oversized img dim crash while Mozilla put out a 
patch shortly of the discovery about the title bug

FF is a viable solution
